The importance of questions. What we ask, What is being asked and why it is being asked?
Youth work is relational and questions are always a key component of conversation, both the questions we ask and the questions we receive. I love the way young people ask daft questions (for fun, and sometimes to see if you really are interested in what they ask) as well as deeply profound questions. One of the skills of youth work is not to automatically answer the question but to find out what is behind the question, and to help young people explore their own views.
Cultivating listening … and the questions we ask help us to develop in our work with young people.
