Job Clubs

With Youth Unemployment running at terrible levels and likely to get worse, I am very keen to see if Churches can work with local young people on ‘job clubs’ (where one doesn’t exist already) and help young people develop the skills and confidence they need.
Can anyone point me to an existing project?

  1. Don’t know anything existing at the moment, but from what I hear the youth centres that have been recently closed could be taken over by churches as easily as handing over the keys if done before April 1st – so maybe that’s something to be considered by local churches across Oxfordshire. There’s certainly the need, if not the volunteers.

  2. There’s a thought, not that Bucks have chucked the babies out with the bathwater like Oxford, but we are having meetings in Burnham about running our own Youth Centre once the service is pared back to bone marrow in the next few months…

  4. I think its a really good idea however I think there is not enough passion from the church to tackle such an area.Social issues doesn’t seem to be a high priority in the church, there is ignorance and a scary lack of empathy.I have been shocked at the wealth and lack of sympathy for poorer members of the wider community.

  5. You could try this one, it’s not specifically for young people. I know of it as someone from my church volunteered there when I was a mere teenager back in London.
