Shane Claiborne has written an open letter in Esquire magazine that they've titled, What if Jesus meant all that stuff? It is a GREAT piece of communication and I want to say that's the Christianity I want to be associated with.
"It is this Jesus who was born in a stank manger in the middle of a genocide. That is the God that we are just as likely to find in the streets as in the sanctuary, who can redeem revolutionaries and tax collectors, the oppressed and the oppressors... a God who is saving some of us from the ghettos of poverty, and some of us from the ghettos of wealth"
I read Shanes book a few years ago and it inspired and challenged me in equal measure
I love Shane's reply when a non-Christian friend asks him if he thinks he is going to hell "I hope not.It will be hard to enjoy heaven without you"..... What a great and honoust come back.
