Having read it, I think some of the assumptions are a bit Flake(y) and hence the headline conclusion is a bit of a Fudge. The danger being that the Daily Mail will take this as reported and rather Revel in it :-)
Oddly enough the Daily Mail reporting at http://bit.ly/VjBov is a bit more balanced, and highlights the point that gets made later on in the article Ian linked to that implied the sweets were just a symptom of a wider problem that the parents who allowed their children sweets every day were in general giving in to pester power. The Daily Mail also found a chap from the Food and Drink federation who called the report utter nonsense.
